* Heian Dynasty is the period division of Japanese history that lasted from 794 to 1185.













- 
The first step: Work on the ground
 - The barrel and cap are completely burnished and the Color Urushi lacquer is painted on them.
 - Gold powder are completely sprinkled on the cap and barrel. After they dried, fix gold powder with Urushi lacquer.
 - After drying them, finish the whole of a pen by burnishing Gold Powder on the background.
 
- 
The second step: Painting Maki-e
 - Make a total design on the pen.
 - Paint Cherry Blossoms by Urushi on the cap and sprinkle Gold Powder. After drying it, paint Urushi and fix Gold Powder.
 - A noble lady and her clothes are raised. Sprinkle Gold Powder and dry it. Paint Color Urushi and dry it. Burnish and finish it.
 - 'Kicho' screen is finished like the above #3.
 - Polish the whole part by using charcoal powder.
 - Moreover, polish using Roiro-ueushi and finish it to make it shiny by hand.
 
[What is Maki-e technique?]

Hira Maki-e
 - Urushi lacquer
 - Sprinkle Gold powder, Seikin: Alloy of Gold, Silver powder, Hirame and so on
 - Coated by Uwazuri and Black urushi
 - Polish by polishing and grindstone powders
 
- 
Togidashi Maki-e (Mainly used for finishing evenly the background)
 - Urushi lacquer
 - Sprinkle Gold powder, Seikin: Alloy of Gold, Silver powder, Hirame and so on
 - Coated thickly by Nashiji and Black urushi
 - Burnished the urushi lacquer by charcoal
 - Polish by polishing and grindstone powders
 
- When coarse gold/silver/Hirame/Seikin powders are sprinkled, put a luster by burnished.
 - After togidashi maki-e, Togidashi Hira maki-e is decorated Hira maki-e on togidashi maki-e.
 - After togidashi maki-e, Togidashi Taka maki-e is decorated Taka maki-e on togidashi maki-e.
 - Burnishing is needed when coarse powders are sprinkled.
